Our
Vision
Radically shift global consciousness by creating opportunity, inspiring growth, and facilitating transformation in personal lives, community, and business culture.
Our
Values
I, not Ego: I—your best self–has the power to create your dream. Ego is the enemy within. Check the ego at the door and bring your best self to bear upon the world around YOU.
Be Better: Always be learning. Always be growing. Always be improving toward your best YOU.
Cultivate Community: No one is meant to do life alone. Only in community can we become the best version of ourselves and change our world.
Cooperational Capitalism: Capitalism is not a dirty word. There is nothing wrong with making money. We are just not competing with anybody to do it. We believe in abundance. The pie is big enough and we want everyone to have their piece.
Respect for ALL: Our humanity is what we share. Our uniqueness sets us apart. Respect is what empowers us to reach our common potential.
John Smith
Founder, CEO, & Coach
If you are wondering if it’s possible to have personal peace and peak performance, then allow me to introduce myself. I am John B. Smith. Yes, my parents really gave me that name.
I was born with a Type AAA personality and boundless imagination, which sounds like the makings of a world-changing scenario, but in my case, it culminated into a nine-year battle with alcoholism. The irony of my addiction is that it was seemingly at odds with my chosen profession at the time. I served in various church leadership roles in churches ranging from 35 to 22,000 in membership for 25 years. While I was well seasoned in guiding others to peak performance I had not yet found how to walk the path of my own life with peace. Then I experienced 120 days that would forever transform my way of approaching the journey of life and organizational leadership. A few simple practices put into action would bring me to discover that the amazing life I was looking for was the one I had right in front of me and there was even more available on this incredible expedition. Through this experience, the idea for what would become Mastering Modern Life was born. I am in a passionate pursuit to inspire people, professionals, and businesses to the transformation I continue to undergo. I get to work with my high-powered team at Mastering Modern Life to deliver these simple practices for transformation through a variety of avenues utilizing my spiritually sarcastic, down to earth, storytelling style. I want the world to Breathe Deep and Enjoy Now!
My most important Collaborative Community consists of my wife Amber a.k.a. Gorgeous, and our three CraZies who are sixteen, fourteen, and ten. Living in Tampa, FL, means that life in the downtime is spent at the beach. Who are we kidding? With three CraZies sports schedules, there is not much downtime.
Rachel Swan
Co-Founder, Vice President, & Coach
If you are wondering if you can really transform through reinvention, then allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rachel Swan. I am a proud military spouse who has a love/hate relationship with the Army.
One of the most difficult yet biggest blessings the military life has given me is the push to reinvent myself….sometimes in ways that I wanted to, other times I have done so kicking and screaming. It has allowed me to spend years working in big time corporate America, the nonprofit world, and most recently in ministry. I believe all areas offer something unique and for me lessons that could not be learned in any other space. Where one sector excels, another struggles. I feel blessed to have experienced them all and now love using the lessons I have learned from each to coach and inspire others to think outside of their proverbial box and embrace ideas outside of their sectors.
Collaborative Community is my lifeline. No one was meant to do this life alone. That is true both personally and professionally. Through the years, and many moves across the states, friends and coworkers have become my family. Nothing refuels my soul more than a good chat with a close friend. I am fortunate my community spans the globe and I love traveling anywhere and everywhere to visit.
My closest community is my family which includes my husband Josh, two incredible daughters who are eight and five years old. Currently living in Wahiawa, HI, means our weekends are spent at the beach, hiking, watching football, and entertaining friends.
